The beating heart of New Orleans culture islive performances. Concerts, theatre presentations, historic lectures, opera, dance, on the street or in one of our grand theatres, there is always something of significance unfolding. Maybe these are just artistic observations, but in New Orleans…entertainment is never far away from where you are.

The Professor Longhair Centennial "Me Got Fiyo" Sponsored By The New Orleans Jazz Museum
July 27, 2018
Henry Roeland Byrd, better known to the world as Professor Longhair or “Fess,” for short, stands as the foremost exponent of New Orleans piano style. As a vocalist, he was a classic blues shouter, and his idiosyncratic style is a rhythmic jambalaya reflecting the freewheeling, good-time spirit of the Crescent City. Urban legend suggests that The New Orleans Jazz Fest was begun to showcase his piano and vocal talents.
Ghostly Gallivants and Voodoo in the Vieux Carre
July 27, 2018
Strolling down Toulouse Street one warm summer night, I caught a hazy glimpse of an old woman appear out of nowhere. She was dressed in black with beads in her hand as she stepped into a doorway. Curious, I went to see where she went. As I approached the doorway, I felt a coolness and noted a strange aroma. Old yellowed mail was stuck in the door making it obvious that the place had not been visited recently. Goosebumps covered my arms, and I went home to research the area. Nearby is The Olivier House, a charming little hotel built in 1836 by Madame Olivier, a wealthy plantation owner.
New Orleans Museums & Curiosity Shops, Past and Present
July 27, 2018
Imagine walking down a cobblestone street in 19th century New Orleans and you decide to take your family to The Crescent City Museum. What a delight to see the menagerie including lions, tigers, gorillas, kangaroos, white peacocks, and a Japanese hog! Over a thousand curiosities in glass cases were available for visitors, and feats of Chinese juggling and knife throwing were regular spectacles.
Shop 'til You Drop Along the French Market District Colonnade
July 27, 2018
My best friend, Christine, is proud to admit that she is a shopaholic. She knows all the best spots to shop for any occasion. She knows how to pace herself by tying in music and craft events for diversion, and she wines and dines along the way to easily fill an entire day with everything she enjoys. She’s a pro shopper but she was kind enough to allow a novice like me to tag along.

Lounging with Latino Libations
July 27, 2018
With Latino food as one of the most popular cuisine cultures in the U.S., it’s no wonder that corresponding Latino spirits and cocktails have become so appealing nationwide. As the Nuevo Latino trend continues, with restaurants popping up and the cuisine more and more familiar to diners, Latin American beverages are also becoming more accessible, even in non-Latino bars and restaurants.
Artist Spotlight The Art of Food K-Paul's and Matt Rinard
July 27, 2018
Chef Paul Miller of K Paul’s restaurant has cheat sheets. Well, I better clear that up before I get nasty emails. What I meant to say was Chef Paul Miller of K Paul’s has cheat sheets that are a cross between colorful comedy and well thought-out design.
I Prefer You

From the first moment I saw Molly Ringwald apply the shiny pink lip-gloss using only her cleavage I knew God had made the right decision in making me a boy. While I do have lips that could sink ships, if I had had that cleavage, I would have done far more scandalous things with it than applying lip cover up. Nonetheless, my appreciation for the art of it and the talent was present and accounted for. Some might say I have been blessed to be surrounded by talented people my whole life.
