Here's A Story About a Gallery...

I spent approximately five years of my childhood praying to baby Jesus that he would make me a Brady. I loved their house, their dog, their housekeeper, and I especially loved the day Jan Brady decided she wanted out. I thought "I could do that, I can be Jan Brady; I am bitter and jealous of everyone already." Needless to say, it never happened and I was forced to move forward as Ryan: sweet, soft, loving ... well.

These days it seems as though the New Orleans food scene is changing more frequently than Molly Cyrus changes her hairstyle! Exciting new eateries appear to pop up virtually every day, chefs are shuffling from restaurant to restaurant and long-time favorites are expanding into unfamiliar territories. That being said, keeping up with this ongoing culinary evolution is challenging to say the least. We've orbited the Quarter and just beyond to bring you the latest endeavors in this one-of-a-kind New Orleans restaurant world.

The summer block party is a classic staple of American culture. The words welcome images of open front doors, ice cold drinks to ward off the summer heat, mingling friends, and music. In New Orleans the summers hottest block party is held on the second Saturday in August, with nine blocks of premier Royal Street real estate opening their doors to showcase the artists, artisans, galleries, and antique shops of the French Quarter.

French Quarter Haunts

In the wee hours of the morning, away from the bright lights and revelry of Bourbon Street, walking the dimly lit streets, it is quiet and the air a bit still, and perhaps you've imbibed on more than a few cocktails. You approach the Ursulines Convent, and look up to see one of the always closed and never seen open board and batten shutters on the attic dormers fly open and shear off the hinges!

Whether one believes in ghosts and vampires, or just imagines footsteps in the dark, the Crescent City's French Quarter, with its worn walls and overhanging galleries, helps one conjure up thoughts of such things. The Quarter is a wonderfully exotic place that can be made eerier by night, although long ago this was undoubtedly truer, since today's bright lighting tempers the gloom and shadow.

Sparkling Blackberry Smash

Recipe provided by Bar R'Evolution

1oz Evan Williams Black Bourbon
1oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1oz Simple Syrup
1oz of sparkling wine
1 Sprig of basil
3 Blackberries

Muddle 2 blackberries, combine Bourbon, Lemon Juice, and Simple Syrup with ice, Shake and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass, top with sparkling wine and garnish with sprig of basil and a blackberry.
