Savor the Holidays, New Orleans Style!

October 27, 2014
In New Orleans, holiday traditions are as thick as roux. Exquisite sights, wonderful Creole food, long-treasured Creole traditions spiced with 21st-century fun, and jazz concerts abound. When Louis Armstrong put his gravelly vocals to smooth brass on the swinging 1955 recording of "Christmas in New Orleans," his voice was like New Orleans itself"... a unique blend of rough edges and refinement. Our well-worn and mightily loved Crescent City is decked out in lights, bows, and sparkle, ready for the season's pageantry.

Kids - In Quarter Time

July 28, 2014
Today the French Quarter is one of the world's premier adult party destinations, and children are not generally part of the scene. That has not always been the case, though. Prior to the mid-20th century, kids were an ever-present part of the Quarter's environment. Notable New Orleanians who spent their childhoods in the Quarter include mid-19th-century chess great Paul Morphy, composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, clarinetist Pete Fountain and exercise guru Richard Simmons.

LIVE!

Seeing and Enjoying Is Believing...
Live Theatre in New Orleans

You can feel the quickening pulse of New Orleans at this time of year. It's not just the changing of the season, since we are a semi-tropical climate the temperatures don't suddenly shift from one extreme to another. It's more gradual over a longer period of time. Four seasons don't come much into play in a place with mild winters.

Dirty Linen, One Hot Night

July 28, 2014
With summer temperatures nearing 100 degrees, Dirty Linen is possibly the only way New Orleans can get any hotter. Dirty Linen, One Hot Night is the French Quarter's largest summer block party, celebrating artists, galleries, street performers and the creative culture of New Orleans. The event is presented by the Arts Council of New Orleans with support from IBERIABANK and Hendrick's Gin. On Saturday, August 9th from 6 - 10 p.m. nine blocks of Royal Street galleries and boutiques will be open their doors for revelers to experience the best of French Quarter art.

Chef Spotlight: Chris Lusk, Chef De Cuisine At Restaurant R'evolution

July 28, 2014
Chris Lusk's career has spanned an eclectic range of culinary experiences - from an externship in an Irish hotel and time as a sous chef cooking Tex" Mex under Stephen Pyles at Star Canyon in Dallas, to creating Asian cuisine in Florida and Italian under Mario Batali at Otto Enoteca in New York.

Tastefully Done

July 28, 2014
In a city that relishes its relics and shuns change (even minute modifications are often met with disdain!), the New Orleans food culture continues to undergo a metamorphosis, much like that of other great food destinations. While many of the grande dames of the Quarter, such as Antoine's, Galatoire's and Arnaud's, continue to maintain their noble stature, others are handing over the reigns, while others are simply calling it quits. Fortunately, the old adage "when one door closes, another door opens" holds true for the culinary industry, too.

For the Love of It

July 28, 2014
I have a really big problem with movies about hauntings. Well, not so much a big problem with the movies themselves as much as the people in them. You know the kind I mean: they sit around wondering what or whose voice is telling them to get out, rather than packing. Personally, I don't need a voice. A post-it on the fridge would work for me, I am just that easy. Then there's that one guy who takes the broken flashlight into the basement full of dismembered baby dolls. And inevitably the chick who just must shower, alone, naked, in the haunted house, at night.

A Spirited Stroll

July 28, 2014
As the summer sizzle fades gently into fall, New Orleanians and visitors alike are enjoying the mild autumn climate that encourages walks in the colorful city.

Stroll along Royal Street and take in the art and antique emporiums, or The Shops at Canal Place on North Peters and Canal, the French Market, the Cabildo and Presbytere at Jackson Square, the Historic New Orleans Collection on Chartres, Woldenberg Park along the Mississippi River, the architecturally amazing Vieux Carre, and so many other sights to behold.
