We have a saying in Louisiana: “Laissez les bons temps rouler,” or “Let the good times roll.” Saying this Cajun expression is a fun and festive way to get people riled up and let them know that the party is starting.
Nothing is truer in the French Quarter this time of year! As we hang up our Mardi Gras costumes and put away our Mardi Gras masks till next year, we roll into St. Patrick’s Day with week-long festivities. On Friday, March 11th may the luck of the Irish be with you with green beer and, yes, more costumes and parades. Not enough partying, you say? The St. Joseph Day Parade rolls on Saturday, March 19th with colorful floats and Italian marching clubs. Would you like a flower, ladies? The men in Italian marching clubs will be happy to give you one!
The French Quarter continues their “block party” with festival music from every street corner and bar from April 21 - 24 with French Quarter Fest. The music is flowing and you can taste some of the best cuisine from the finest local restaurants the city has to offer.
As you can see, we celebrate just about anything in the Vieux Carre: food, libations, music, history, and more! It’s springtime, a time to rejoice with outdoor festivals and revel in the fact that winter is ending and warm weather is arriving. Whether you are visiting for Mardi Gras or here for your favorite festival, let your inner self out. As we say: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”
