Well hello fall, and hello Dirty Linen.
The science of making a great celebration even better is making sure all the key elements come together to at the right time, in the right place.
This time around, experience what you have come to expect and so much more, as the art galleries and merchants of Royal Street band together to bring New Orleans an original version of this much-anticipated event. This year the annual party will be held Saturday August 12th from 6-9 pm.
It has been sometime since the true inhabitants of Royal Street have manned the ship for this bash that usually meets face to face with the Red Dress Run. Planed again on the same day as the run, these two New Orleans Bucket list must do’s will flood the French Quarter with a slew of parties. To meet the need of the party goers, Royal Street will remain a pedestrian only mall as restaurants and food trucks line the streets to tantalize your taste buds.
The plan this year involves each gallery and shop, representing its best self to locals and our visitors. Expect less street attractions and more to lure you into the shops and the galleries.
Caliche and Pao Gallery will roll out the festivities in the 300 block. Peter O’Neil will be hosting their usual events in the 300 and 700 blocks. While the 400 block is a map of galleries and shops that shouldn’t be missed.
Galerie Rue Royale, in the 500 block, is planning a special exhibition of artist DeVon’s Pop Art creations with its annual pizza, donut, and beer party. Keep your eyes peeled for their DL premier sangria and don’t forget to stop by Galerie Rue Royale at 541 Royal Street, for a chair massage provided by the Waldorf Astoria Spa in the Roosevelt Hotel. Just across the street, Elliot Gallery will be playing host to Pirate Alley artist, Trey Bryan as he creates the night festivities in front of your eyes in one on his live action drawings. Trey’s work is attraction enough, as this up and coming Bywater sensation creates visions of New Orleans from his mobile studio, his bike. His work represents a new direction in New Orleans art culture. Rinard Gallery in the 600 block will showcase their iconic New Orleans collection.
Way down in the 700 and 800 block, Red Truck Gallery, promise their usual over the top mind-blowing exhibits with artist like Cher Shaffer and John Whipple. Anatomy your thing? Craig Tracey will be body painting live in his gallery at 827 Royal Street. See the world-famous artist mix and mingle while he turns somebody’s body into a work of art
This year the party includes the often forgotten 900 block of Royal Street! That’s right you get another whole block of drinks, art, fun, and food. Everything is brought to you by a list of title sponsors and French Quarterly Magazine as the media relations sponsor.
With special exhibitions throughout the French Quarter, like Gallery Arlo’s displaying the glass and ceramic works of the student of YaYa. The exhibit will run through the weekend after DL 2017, all proceeds going back to YaYa, a nonprofit organization dedicated to introducing children to art and helping to create the artists and art lovers of tomorrow.
