The French Market Creole Tomato Festival
The 39th Annual French Market Creole Tomato Festival is a cherished summer tradition in New Orleans that honors the region's renowned Creole tomatoes through food, music, and family activities. This signature festival marks the official start of summer, featuring fresh local produce, live entertainment and a variety of tomato-based dishes. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The festival takes place at the historic French Market, located at 1235 N. Peters St. This free and open-to-the-public event spans the French Market district, from Dutch Alley to Farmers Market.

This popular folk song “House of the Rising Sun” has been a part of the American music scene, performed by many noteworthy artists such as Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, with probably the most famous version done by The Animals. It talks about a man whose addictions get the better of him in New Orleans.

Mardi Gras madness has worn off and given way to Spring Fever in the Crescent City. Catch a cabbage at one of our St. Joseph’s Day, show off your Easter Bonnet at the Marigny Bunny Hop, rock out with the Rolling Stones at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival or meet amazing authors at the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival. No matter what you desire, New Orleans has it.

The holiday season is the perfect time of the year to visit the Crescent City. In New Orleans, we like to extend our celebrations so that our holiday season stretches from December through February. The cuisine, the decorations, the events and most of all the music; no matter what holiday you visit for, we have it all. Whether you are enjoying a jazz band playing Louis Armstrong’s “Christmas in New Orleans” at one of our many Réveillon dinners or dancing in the streets to “Mardi Gras Mambo” performed by a high school band at a Carnival Parade, let the holiday magic sweep you up.

Since New Orleans was founded in 1718, the city has always had an allure or mystique surrounding it. From its development by the French through its period of Spanish control, then briefly back to the French before being acquired by the United States with the Louisiana Purchase, the Crescent City has indeed become a kaleidoscope of stories, folklore and legends. Even before it was founded as a city, the Big Easy which was then known as Bulbancha ("place of many tongues” in Choctaw) was an important trading hub by the Native Americans.
