Celebrate The Season At The French Market

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so gather your family and friends for a day of Yuletide revelry in the historic French Market District. Celebrating over 200 years of commerce, community and culture, a visit to the iconic French Market District is sure to be the star on the top of your tree!

Jingle all the way to the French Market on Saturday, Dec. 7 for some holiday cheer during the French Market’s annual St. Nick Celebration, which takes place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Dutch Alley. This festive, free event features live holiday music, fun-filled activities for children of all ages, jovial holiday characters and more. And if that’s not enough to make your spirits merry and bright, then catch the 3rd Annual Children’s Hospital New Orleans Holiday Parade, which kicks off at the French Market starting at 11 a.m. The jolly parade will feature 30 holiday-themed floats, high-flying, holiday-themed helium balloons, and more than a dozen dancing groups and marching bands.

Does searching for the perfect presents to wrap up your holiday gift-giving list have your tinsel in a tangle? Simply hitch up the sleigh and glide over to the French Market District, where you’ll discover candy cane wishes and mistletoe kisses around every corner. Begin your shopping excursion at the Dutch Alley Artist’s Co-Op, where you’ll discover luxury jewelry, original paintings, one-of-a-kind artwork, pottery, and more, all handcrafted by top regional designers, many of whom are busy creating at the gallery. And if you have stockings that need stuffing, saunter through the bustling, open-air French Market where you’ll uncover booth after booth packed with hand-made goodies, arts and crafts, wearable art, tasty treats, souvenirs and more.

A stroll along Decatur Street will lead you to Merry Christmas & All That Jazz, where tree trimming is made, well, Big Easy! From colorful holiday ornaments in every theme imaginable to cheerful Crescent City keepsakes, this joy-filled, shiny and bright shop is bursting with holiday cheer. For those who have visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, Southern Candymakers, The Fudgery and Aunt Sally’s Praline Shop are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth with a heavenly array of treats such as world-famous Creole pralines, hand-made chocolates and creamy fudge. As for the kiddos on your list, the perfect present to place under your tree can be found at Little Toy Shop, a family-owned toy store featuring children’s books, puzzles, games, figures, plush toys, music boxes and more, that’s been lighting up faces for more than 60 years.

If you’re lucky enough to score a ticket to the Big Game, which will be played at the Ceasars Superdome in February, be sure to catch the French Market District’s newest fete, the Louisiana Culture Fest.
