NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA— The Governor Restaurant and Seafood Bar is now open at 301 Chartres Street at the corner of Bienville in the French Quarter. The restaurant was designed to honor and respect all 56 Louisiana governors with interior artwork including memorabilia representing each of the colorful characters who once presided over the Great State of Louisiana.
The menu at The Governor pays homage to the waters and lands of Louisiana, including its seafood, meats, and produce. Appetizers, listed on the menu under “Share the Wealth,” are sharable snacks including crispy artichoke hearts, andouille & fig casserole, Capital City potatoes (grown right in Baton Rouge) and Governor’s snack which includes peanuts, onion straws, hominy & cracklin’. The Seafood Assembly, a plethora of raw, boiled, baked and fried seafood has preferential menu placement. Included are specialty raw oysters, boiled Gulf shrimp cocktail, Cajun Caviar deviled eggs, crab claws, seafood salad, and baked oysters. Several soups and salads are available: duck and andouille gumbo, shrimp boil chowder, mayhaw glazed salmon salad and blackened shrimp Caesar salad. The “Power Brunch” at The Governor is available all day, every day, and includes dishes such as eggs Pontchartrain, les bons temps rouler stuffed omelet, and The Governor’s breakfast of 3 eggs, applewood smoked bacon, pork sausage patty, andouille sausage link, choice of two sides and sourdough toast. “Uncle Sammies,” The Governor’s clever play on sandwiches, include a shrimp & crab cake sandwich, red stick angus burger, and The Peacemaker made with fried oysters and shrimp, lettuce, tomato, and camp sauce on toasted brioche. The Governor’s House Specialties round out the menu with sugar kettle roasted salmon, election day red beans and rice with buttermilk fried chicken, and a “loaded with pork” potato bowl, to name a few.
