Longest Po'Boy Ever to be Created on National Sandwich Day November 3rd

PRESS RELEASE: New Orleans, LA (October 19, 2017) – Few things scream “New Orleans” louder than the iconic po’boy. In true culinary tradition, Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Chisesi Brothers and Leidenheimer Baking Company are partnering to celebrate National Sandwich Day in style – with a block-long po’boy in the middle of the French Quarter! At approximately 350 feet, it will be the longest po’boy ever created in New Orleans!

On Friday, November 3rd, the local brands will create this super-sized po’boy on the 500 block of Royal Street in the French Quarter. All are welcome to get a free po’boy between 12PM and 2PM.

After grabbing their po’boy, patrons will be directed to the courtyard at The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC), located at 533 Royal Street, where they can enjoy complimentary Luzianne iced tea and a free presentation on the history of New Orleans’ most beloved sandwich, presented by THNOC interpretation assistant George Schindler IV. Presentations will take place at 12:15PM and 1PM.

“We are thrilled to put a new spin on National Sandwich Day by bringing our annual po’boy giveaway to the French Quarter. We are also grateful for the participation of The Historic New Orleans Collection in this year’s event. By shining a spotlight on the history behind one of our most beloved culinary creations, we are keeping local tradition alive,” said Beth Mauterer, Marketing Manager for Blue Plate Mayonnaise.

Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Chisesi Brothers and Leidenheimer Baking Co. have all been staples of the New Orleans culinary landscape for nearly 100 years. By coming together to celebrate National Sandwich Day, the three companies look forward to providing a unique event and a po’boy the community is sure to remember.

The public is invited to come out and get their complimentary sandwich; one will be given per person. Po’boy options will include ham and roast beef in both traditional and Cajun variety.

“A block-long po’boy – made with traditional, local ingredients – will certainly be a site to behold! We encourage everyone to come out and join us for this special occasion!” said Nicholas Chisesi, fifth generation of Chisesi Brothers. Sandy Whann, fourth-generation president of Leidenheimer Baking Company, said, “We are excited about this opportunity to partner with other local, family-owned businesses to promote and celebrate New Orleans’ beloved po’boy.”
